The Differences between Project Based Learning and "Just Doing Projects"

PBL the Difference in Learning Success!

The diagram displayed shows the main differences between PBL and just doing projects using as a reference the video “What is PBL.” I designed the chart on a way that you can learn about each one of these but I added in the center the different perspectives by topics of the learning process, which educators should reflect to make the change. The topics are: curriculum, project introduction, teacher’s role, learning exposure, learning content, standards, learning success and technology. PBL enhances learning on a cooperative way where students are involved in the learning process and grants them a possession on the knowledge developed. Learning is guided by teacher’s following the student’s inquiry, critical thinking and reflection in all stages of the process. Students use different skills to reach their final outcome and become experts on the matter. Just doing projects does not have a clear vision of providing and enhancing student’s inquiry and limits the creativity and learning path. Student’s creation and learning experience is limited to a project that culminates a unit that does not allow time for reflection and to learn other skills needed for the 21st Century global education.
